According to a 2016 poll of 13,000 brides and grooms, the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is $35,329. That’s a startling number when you consider the individual median income across the country is $29,979 and the median household income is $55,775 (Dept of Numbers).

Here in the Bay Area, you can expect to spend closer to $42,716, and the biggest ticket items are often the venue, engagement ring, and photographer (The Knot). Wedding Costs Abroad

Although it appears most American couples spend a hefty sum on their nuptials, what couples in other countries, like India, spend on their wedding can be an even larger expense compared to their income.
