Health & Wellness Trends in Meetings

Along with providing a captivating agenda, how can event planners keep their attendees focused and engaged?

According to a survey of venues from IACC, attendees crave a healthy menu and communal environment when attending conferences, events and meetings. Satisfy your attendees by providing brain foods and gluten-free options, including keeping healthful food at the ready throughout the day, and breakout spaces where attendees can reflect by themselves.

What is brain food?

Certain foods are rich in nutrients and promote brain health. Consider serving brain foods like avocados, beets, quinoa, broccoli, blueberries, salmon, walnuts, and green leafy vegetables—many of which are rich in antioxidants, good fats, vitamins, and minerals proven to boost focus and memory.

What is gluten-free?

Gluten is a protein found in products made with wheat and other grains, and has negative health effects for many people. Foods like pasta, bread, pastries, and some meats contain gluten that can cause symptoms like digestive discomfort, bloating, and fatigue. Many people are turning to gluten-free foods, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and legumes as well as meats, poultry, fish, and meat substitutes that have not been breaded or battered.

Why provide some food all day?

Although you should have actual meal breaks for all-day meetings and conferences, providing continuous snacks allows attendees to get “the food that fuels them at a variety of different times” and can help keep them focused (Successful Meetings). You never know when hunger will strike your attendees, so ensure they have a variety of snacks at the ready to tide them over until meals are served.

Why are breakout spaces needed?

According to IACC CEO Mark Cooper, “The focus is no longer only on the main room, [and] meeting planners should include details and dimensions of outside the room spaces in proposals and venue specifications.” Ensuring your attendees can step away from the designated meeting space allows them the flexibility and freedom to enjoy a refreshing moment alone or with colleagues before diving back into the meeting’s topics.

Encourage health and wellness at events and meetings by discussing how to implement these food service and venue options with your clients!
